Earlier this month, I had the privilege of sitting for a two-part interview with MoodFM in Jordan along with Rasha Salib, Clinical Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist. Our focus was discussing eating disorders, diet culture, and how I found healing through movement.
It marked a turning point in my recovery. It was just 2 years ago that I admitted to myself that I had an eating disorder in the first place. Never did I ever think I’d feel comfortable sharing my story so publicly.
L to R: Tamara Seikaly (host), Rasha Salib, Me, and Moe (host).
Below is audio from Part 1 of our interview. Stay tuned for Part 2!
Section 1: Opening
Rasha discusses eating disorders, disordered eating, and signs to look for if you think someone is struggling.
Section 2: My story with bulimia
Rasha shares about prevalence and I share the beginnings of my struggle with bulimia.
Section 3: Causes
I answer a question about my ADHD diagnosis, and Rasha discusses what can cause or contribute to eating disorders (including diet culture’s influence).
Section 4: Recovery and treatment
I share how weightlifting has helped my recovery and Rasha outlines various treatment options and how to approach someone you may be concerned about.
